Hodaka Yoshida EXTREMELY RARE Second Documented Print 1951 “Sail” Japanese Woodblock Print This is one of the two earliest documented works by the renowned 20th century Japanese artist Hodaka Yoshida.  It is listed in Eugene Skibbe’s definitive catalogue of Hodaka’s works as Number (numbers one and two referring to two states of the initial print, “Still Life”, which am also offering on eBay).  The print is beautifully executed predominantly in shades of red and orange, with good bleed-through on the verso.  The image measures. 14¾ 9½ inches (paper dimensions: 16¼” 11”).  It is titled “Sail”, dated 1951, and signed in English in pencil in the bottom margin.  Its condition is good.  There is minor overall age toning, two tack  holes near the left edge (probably part of the printing process), and some staining along the bottom margin, with no other faults to report.  Hodaka Yoshida (1926-1955) paragon of the Sosaku Hanga ("Creative Print") movement, was the son of Hiroshi and Fujio Yoshida, at the top rank of the early 20th century Shin Hanga movement in Japan; brother of Toshi Yoshida, who bridged the Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga worlds; husband of modern artist Chizuko Yoshida, father of contemporary artist Ayomi Yoshida.  Well, you get the picture.  For wonderful overview, visit Eugene Skibbe's Hodaka website: http://hodakayoshidaprints.com/index.html.Payment and Shipping:
