Solid and Firm. There are two big breaks in of the arm rests.  Both breaks are located on the left armrest of each chair.One break is on the back and the second break on the second chair is located on the hand rests. This should be repaired.  Otherwise wear is usual for their age.  Please see photos.Overall Gorgeous Set of Chairs that you will love having in your home!!!Measurements: 39"High 24 26 and floor to seat is 18".
