LARGE VINTAGE HAND WOVEN SUMBA HINGGI IKAT

This Vintage Ikat was woven by hand in two pieces and joined in the centre as proof or creation on traditional wooden back strap loom. The design motifs including Mythical Animals and Human forms which were created to protect the weaver of the ikat from evil spirits and bring good luck in their life are indicative of an original in Sumba, Indonesia.The vegetable and mineral dyed colours place it's creation date to between 1950 and the mid 1960s.
