This is an Antique Meriden Company Silver plate butter dishpat: July 14, 1868 stamped on the bottomMeriden Company also Stamped on the bottom.
needs really good cleaning.It does look like the spot where the knife rest is was broken off but not to sure because it is on the side not the front.Has curved top for the  handle to set into it moves freely up and down. it does not sit flat and am not sure why.
But would make great addition to any collection
