This is great old box beautifully hand carved!!
Both the lid and the bottom are one piece of wood hinged together.
The bottom piece has been hollowed out.
It's very heavy weighing approx 3¼ pounds.
It has heavy metal hinges and what look to be nails.
It also has piece of old leather or fabric cut to fit in the inside as shown.
This was probably originally tied shut, tho someone did however tack gold string on
the inside to keep the lid from going back too far.
