Antique Glass Enamel Thumbprint Pickle Castor Barbour Silverplate c.1870 Flint
Technical specifications, photos and description:
Offered is beautiful antique pickle castor with an enamel painted glass insert. Marked Barbour Silver Co. Quadruple with the number 142.
This castor was sold at auction as flint glass, but because am not glass expert can't guarantee it. What can describe is that the insert is hand-blown and has vague "Y" mark at the base. The glass makes very pronounced ringing tone when tapped. The glass is beautifully clear with few small bubbles and pronounced optic/thumbprint design. The hand-decorated enameling is white, yellow and orange flowers. The insert is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks, with just one rough spot on the rim that I'm not sure is even fleabite.
The silverplate castor is in very nice condition, with twisted rope handle, and ivy and flowers on the sides. The reverse side has monogram on the base (I believe the initials "DK"). The lid is unmarked and fits inside the castor. The tongs (also unmarked) are nice design of claws and flowers.
Measures 9-3/4 inches tall by inches wide, with the insert measuring 4-1/2 inches tall (7 inches with the lid) and inches wide.
Michigan residents please add 6% sales tax.
