Antique Chinese Opium Tray Box Set Brass Enamel Champleve Qing Dynasty c. 1890 for sale
Current customer rating: Rating 3 (3) based on 105 votes

This sale is for an exquisite, exceedingly-rare antique Chinese opiumtray set from the late Qing Dynasty featuring Champlevé-style enamel on brass. This set is complete, all original, and you won't find it anywhere else!  The tray box is made of decorated black,gold-painted enamel on solid brass frame with mahogany bottom, compartmentseparators, and lids. Tray features five separate compartments: three withwooden covers (two small, covered compartments, and one long, coveredcompartment-presumably storage space for an opium pipe), two open compartmentsfor housing bowls, and center-fitted recess for the Champlevé alcoholburner. Tray is handled in champlevé brass and footed in brass. Traymeasures 13.38’’ (34cm) from handle to handle and  10.23’’ (26cm) 9.84’’ (25cm) not includinghandles.  Tray is 1.57’’ (4cm) tall, notincluding brass feet.   Each lid has brass foo lion dog finial mounted as ahandle.  Two of the lions are glued in, and the third is mounted in withits original brass washer. ConditionRemarks:Outer enamel shell shows light pitting on thesurface from age, and the gold-paint pattern has faded on the sides andhandles.  One small .25'' crack in the enamel near one corner.  Topsurface mahogany has held up well and bears no water damage or rot, but doeshave predictable surface marks.  One of the inner wooden lid supports is missing (forthe upper left compartment in the first picture).  That lid can fallinside the box easily, but this could be easily remedied by the purchaser. The brass rim around the other small compartment (upper right compartmentin the first picture) is slightly bent and results in very tight, albeitimperfect seal around that lid.  All eight original, matching brass Champleve bowlsare included.  Matching black enamel pattern with solid blue enamel on thebottom.  Bowls measure 2.9'' in diameter.  As set forth in the photos, two of the eight bowlshave small chips in the blue enamel, and fading in the gold-paint pattern. Finally, the original matching alcohol burner isalso included (this is what the opium smoker would use to light their pipe). As with the other pieces in this set, the gold-paint on the enamel hasfaded.  Stands roughly 3.14’’ tall(8cm).   Please refer to the photos closely for extensivecosmetic and condition details, and feel free to contact me with any questions.   Shipping is included via SAFE & SECURE USPS PRIORITY FULLY INSURED REGISTERED MAIL.   INTERNATIONAL BUYERS SHIPPING RATES ARE FOR OVERSEASREGISTERED MAIL.   In certain circumstances, accept returns andprovide for full or partial refunds, generally when significant mistake hasbeen made in the quality of the goods sold to warrant such reimbursement tothe purchaser.   For other, discretionary returns requested by thepurchaser (returns not based on some significant mistake or seller's error), Inote that shipping is NONREFUNDABLE, and 15% restocking fee will be appliedprior to the issuance of refund.

All returns will be handled on case-by-case basis.
