ABORIGINAL BIRTHING STONE Northern QueenslandA beautiful elongated ovoid stone pebble clearly presenting female form with outstretched arms and legs. The image appears to indicate birth with what could be the chord and newborn. The stone bears remains of white ochre with the figure, lightly pecked out and filled with reddish ochre or dust.This is possibly stone bearing some magical properties for location to mark its importance. Perhaps it is portable to be hidden from men.This piece is from an old private collection from which it was purchased during the 1960's and left to myself for disposal.Size 225 mm (~8.8 ins.) 85 mm, at its widest(~3.4 ins.) 50 mm at its thickest (~2 ins.)Weight 1.58 kgms (~3lb 8oz )
