gorgeous pair of exact matching  English Georgian mother of pearl silk thread winders c.  1800Beautiful hand carved decoration expertly executed and true tiny treasures. On one side  with central star motif surrounded with stylised foliate design contained within two concentric rings and lovely stylised lotus flower border. The other side bearing delicately carved bird flying over water signifying the return of loved ones or friends. Two concentric circles contain this motif which is highlighted by repeat triangular motif. Two more concentric circles and then the same stylised lotus blossom border as to the obverse. Really charming and expertly executed. The circular firm if the winders is indented with twelve notches to hold your "ends" of silk thread.  One only has quantity of highly lustrous peach silk thread wound upon it. Lovely  luminesce mother of pearl finely cut with even thickness and precisely cut. These where de rigeur in the needlework boxes of the stylish young Georgian lady of the time and where quite extraordinarily priced. An incredible amount of fine artistic effort has gone into the creation of these.Mother of pearl had only recently been introduced in to England subsequent to the south seas voyages that included Cook's "discovery" of Australia. It was primarily sourced from Tahiti and surrounding islands.  It was an immediate sensation on the English market and was used for all manner of items adding rare exotic appeal along with its obvious beauty.  Along with this huge demand and limited supply came often quite extraordinary prices. Hence the amount of work and effort that has gone into the creation of these tiny treasures. They would have commanded very hefty price tag in Georgian England. A real joy as collectable or for practical use within your needlework box bringing you joy with each use. Be sure to check out my other rare treasures listed with lots more to come. Combined shipping is available wherever practical. Thank you and good luck.
