DESCRIPTION:A solid ebony wood hat pin box with sterling silver embellishments. The silver is hallmarked London 1924, maker William Robertson. The box measures 5.25 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep and 1.5 inches tall, it is stamped 'EBONY MADE IN ENGLAND' to the base.
This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s, when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since.
CONDITION:The silver is in excellent condition with minimal wear and no missing fixing pins. There is stable, historical crack to the base, otherwise the ebony is in excellent condition with very high polish. The hinges are in fine working order.
