Very Nice Victorian Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Snuff Box Made By Colen Hewer Cheshire
Description - Wonderful rectangular good gauge solid silver snuff box with hinged lid and thumb piece.  The lid and base have been beautifully hand engraved with bright cut scroll foliate decoration, the lid has vacant cartouche, the sides have further engraved decoration, the interior richly gilded (Gold washed).
The box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay, the lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver,  the date letter "w" for the year 1896 and the maker's mark "C.C" which is Colen Hewer Cheshire.
Condition - The box is in very good condition there is tiny split on the front left corner of the lid which is only visible by close inspection, there are no dents, dinks, holes or repairs, the hinge is in excellent order closing the lid flush and secure, the engraved decoration is in excellent condition being crisp and clear with no rubbing or wear.  The interior silver- gilt is nice and bright with good sheen.
Dimensions & Weight - The box is 6.2cm wide 4cm long.  The weight is 63.9 grams.
