Up for auction is one antique bronze plaque. On the plaque is written as follows, "Lagopus scoticus This bird has been mounted And stuffed for the great Exhibition 1851 By Ivor poake taxidermist) ltd 69 the strand london"
"Intended as "joke" item these pressed brass plaques have now become an integral put of taxidermy history.Stating Lacopus Scoticus (Red Grouse) was stuffed by Ivor Poake Ltd for the Great Exhibition 1851 kind of gives the game away.
While their origin cannot be confirmed, am reliablly informed the taxidermists past from Rowland Ward's may have been able to shed some light on the matter." http://www.britishhistoricaltaxidermy.co.uk/sale/misc.html
Back has remains of bluetac on it. See pics for more details.
