This silk embroidery was probably done in the last quarter of the 19c possibly the early 20c. The gentleman has been identified as Friedrich Engels German philosopher, social scientist, journalist and businessman. He also worked with Karl Marx to found Marxist theory, co-authored The Communist Manifesto and supported him financially. There is staining that needs some careful removal and part of the piece embroidery is missing in the lower left. also found two small imperfections in the background to the right and above the head. The piece measures approximately 31"H 2'0"W, this was stored folded so it will need to be carefully pressed. Buyer pays for shipping.
